Perhaps the biggest frustration for iPad users is the lack of a great Skype app. While the majority of users have more than likely been taking advantage of the Skype for iPhone app, there are noticeable interface inconveniences that make using it a pain, to say the least.
During the announcement, Skype’s Asia Pacific Vice President also mentioned hopes that future iPad hardware would integrate a front facing camera, much like the rumored next generation iPhone expected to launch at Apple’s World Wide Developer’s Conference next month. Skype VP Dan Neary said, “We believe that video is part of the Skype experience,” says the VP, “and we believe that video is moving aggressively into the mobile environment, so stay tuned on an announcement on that.”
Neary clearly knows the iPad has some catching up to do however, “I think the iPad is an incredibly exciting product but it is clearly not the same communications device in its current form that the iPhone is,” he continues. “So we’re looking forward to further advancements in the iPad and where that can go in the future.”
